Officer Wes' & Daddy Barry’s 2013

The year started exhausted.  3 hour, 2 hour, 4 hour naps.  We checked my thyroid & blood counts.  They were fine.

Our friends Farrah & Kim had a high tea birthday party.  It was delightful.  Here is some of the food being finalized.

Then I travelled to see family in Oregon.  A highlight was my 82-year old aunt Mavis cooking a sweet dinner for me and inviting the other nearby aunts and uncles over.  Great way to get to visit.  And I was able to be helpful by configuring Daddy’s new computer and spiffying their two other existing computers which had gotten visually bogged down by crudware.  Tom looked after Opa while I was gone.  And Daddy Barry shifted our commuting so that he came to San Diego twice, as he knew I’d be worn out with travel.

Friends Glenn & Kent came to town in February.  We trekked out to Cabrillo during low tide.  Here’s a handsome picture of Glenn.

Big things in March!  My 50th birthday!  Eight of us celebrated with a festive dinner at Lei Lounge:  me, Daddy Barry, Tom, John & Kent, jeanne – and Deputy & Chris as delightful surprises from SFO.

But even bigger:  Daddy Barry and I decided to move him in after our eighth anniversary.  I was happy for both of us.  It also got him out of a living situation which had become pervasively verbally abusive.

AND, moving brought all that move-related stuff:  renting a truck, packing, unpacking, asking neighbors Gary and Alfredo to help manhandle the motorcycle out of the moving truck, excess to climate controlled storage for now, obtaining that storage, Container Store to configure new rod and basket space near the foot of the bed, installation day, populating the new area with our leathers (see picture below)

upgrading the TV from broadcast to satellite with a DVR, resolving a small kerfuffle in the HOA about the satellite, getting a personal cell phone (previously Daddy Barry had a land line and a work cell phone), breaking bread with friends (Gary and Mark, Farrah, Melissa, jeanne), updating the condo and car insurance to reflect his presence, reconfiguring bathroom shelves, Container Store for bathroom containers, adding more shelves in the storage shed, trips for related lumber and tools and to storage to fetch some items for the new shelves, intake at the local VA, Fry’s for newly needed items (a video switch to accommodate satellite in bedroom, an HDMI switch to accommodate satellite in living room, a surge protector), adding a shelf in the kitchen cupboard,

trips for related lumber and tools, massages, therapy together and alone, hanging pictures.

Much of what we did in the following months related to planning a trip that Daddy Barry had been wanting to take all his life.  He had previously travelled the Far East, but not Europe yet.  So in September we made a wonderful trip to London, Paris & Venice.  We paced it intentionally slow, staying a week in each city, to accommodate my low energy beans.  We travelled well together.  The trip was fascinating and fun.

When we returned I continued pursuing the question “Why am I tired all the time?”  My doctor and I decided a sleep study was in order.  And it found what I’d long suspected (but which hadn’t shown up in a previous sleep study back in 2005):  I had sleep apnea and wasn’t getting much deep sleep.  So, a CPAP machine was in order.  Meanwhile, we also continued the footwork to help address Daddy Barry’s back pain.  (His spine has 5 hernias and 2 ruptures.)  In addition to physical therapy, and normal epidurals, he was/is slated for two epidurals approaching from the sides.  We are hopeful.

And Daddy Barry resumed art classes for abstract acrylics.  Here’s one I particularly like:

As always, may this find you happy & well.
